We Activate Voters. We Win.

Comprehensive strategic campaign management is our core area of expertise. With over 20 years of experience, The Advance Group has managed hundreds of strategic campaigns throughout the country. We understand tactical integration better than any other firm and have established an unparalleled record of success. Whether representing clients wanting to influence public opinion, or running a campaign for public office, we are masterful at maximizing resources and employing unique creative tactics.

The Advance Group utilizes all areas of our expertise and experience in crafting effective strategies for each of our issue-based campaigns. Rather than a one-sided approach to an issue, The Advance Group develops and implements multi-faceted campaigns. We employ coalition building, government outreach, event production, public relations, social media and paid media components designed as an integrated strategy to ensure increased leverage and the greatest impact for our clients.

Our approach to campaigns for public office begins with an innate understanding of the everyday challenges campaigns face. Our strategy combines an intense focus on direct voter contact — both candidate and volunteer driven — with a paid media program intended to complement, rather than replace, our efforts on the ground.

The Advance Group takes a hands-on and comprehensive approach to strategic campaign consulting, and will work with the client and their staff on every component.

NYC Is Not For Sale, CWA Local 1180

In 2009, CWA Local 1180 hired The Advance Group to develop and implement a comprehensive strategic campaign targeted at New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg. The campaign’s goal was to corral all opposition emanating from Mayor Bloomberg overturning popularly supported term limits laws. Mayor Bloomberg’s disregard for term limits was made more controversial by the fact that he spent almost two hundred million dollars in an effort to get re-elected. He did this in the midst of the worst economic recession in decades. Despite the growing public unrest, there was no sign of an organized campaign to harness the frustrations of New York’s millions of working families. In the face of unprecedented campaign spending by Mayor Bloomberg, The Advance Group and Local 1180 developed a campaign that used humor and creativity to strengthen the opposition to Mayor Bloomberg’s candidacy and connect with the middle and working class of New York City. The ultimate result was an election far closer than anyone had predicted.

Save the Plaza, Hotel and Motel Trades Council

When the world-famous Plaza Hotel, part of the fabric of New York, was sold to foreign developers, the livelihoods of hundreds of workers were threatened. The developers wanted to turn the hotel into luxury condominiums and the history and future of this landmark building were put in jeopardy. Together with the Hotel Trades Council, The Advance Group built a multi-faceted campaign that incorporated broad coalition building, earned media outreach, paid media components and lobbying efforts. In the end, the campaign saved hundreds of jobs and won the preservation of historical rooms including the Grand Ballroom and the Oak Room.

Kids Can’t Wait — Children’s Health Fund

In the beginning of 2009, when the recession began to hit, more and more children lost health insurance coverage and the barriers to care increased throughout our country. Working with the Children’s Health Fund, The Advance Group developed a comprehensive campaign designed to deliver direct health care services to children in need and advocate for structural change to our health care delivery system. In Detroit, The Advance group planned and produced a weekend of free health care where hundreds of children received comprehensive medical care. This national effort was designed to call attention to our children’s health care crisis and create an environment that leads to federal policy change. This project led the CBS evening news and was covered extensively throughout the country.

Congressmember Yvette D. Clarke

In an historic seat, once held by the groundbreaking Shirley Chisolm, then-Councilmember Yvette Clarke ran in a crowded field against a number of well-funded opponents. The Advance Group was part of a team that developed a comprehensive strategy resulting in Yvette Clarke defying the odds to be elected Congressmember for New York’s 11th District.

State Senator Diane Savino

Diane Savino, former Vice President of SSEU Local 371, was one of the first labor candidates elected to the New York State Senate. In 2004, The Advance Group helped organize thousands of union workers in a grassroots campaign to defeat strong challengers in both the Democratic primary and the general election. Today, Diane is Chair of the Committee on Civil Service and Pensions.

Assemblymember Hakeem Jeffries

When The Advance Group first started working for this accomplished young attorney, Hakeem Jeffries had run for Central Brooklyn’s 57th State Assembly District twice before against then-incumbent Roger Green. In 2006, The Advance Group helped Hakeem win a rousing victory with 60% of the vote against two strong opponents.
